Flag event scheduled in Danville
DANVILLE — The Danville Elks Lodge No. 332 is sponsoring a special Flag Day community salute to honor the American flag.
The "family friendly" event will be held at 5 p.m. on June 11 in Temple Plaza on North Vermilion Street in downtown Danville. It will be moved to the Elks Lodge at 421 N. Vermilion St., Danville, in the event of bad weather.
The event is free and open to the public. It will include special music and the presentation of seven historical flag replicas, which will be carried in by members of Boy Scout Troop 319 and Cub Scout Pack 399, chartered to the Ridgeview Baptist Church in Danville.
Special seating will be available for World War II veterans and honored guests.
Organizers also are seeking participation from other service organizations in the community, said Kiwanis District 25 Past Lt. Governor Craig Chambers, who is cochairing the event with Elks East Central District Deputy Jim Beebe.

The Flag Day tribute will be followed by a steak dinner at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the lodge office
The dinner includes a 10-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, "chuckwagon" beans, coleslaw, bread and homemade desserts.
Pre-paid dinner reservations are $12 apiece. People also can purchase tickets at the door for $15 apiece.
A 50/50 drawing will be held with proceeds going to the Vermilion County War Museum.
