UI student farm to have open house

URBANA — The University of Illinois Sustainable Student Farm will hold an open house later this week.

The open house will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the farm, which is located near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Windsor Road in south Urbana.

To get to the farm, visitors should follow the gravel road south of the intersection and look for signs posted on the fence. Visitors will see three plastic greenhouse-type structures, called "high tunnels."

Visitors will be able to tour the farm and learn how the produce is grown and harvested. There will also be some taste tests organized by campus chefs and side-by-side comparisons of farm-fresh versus grocery-store produce.
