UI police seek public's help in finding a registered sex offender

URBANA — University of Illinois police have asked for the public's help in finding a registered sex offender who has been seen within the campus district.

A police department press release Tuesday afternoon said police were trying to issue a trespass notice to Christopher B. Wilkins, 25.

Christopher Wilkins was sentenced in 2009 to 30 months of probation and 50 hours of public service for criminal sexual abuse. Wilkins was also
sentenced to 233 days in jail, but he received credit for all 233 days he had already served. The judge ordered Wilkins to register as a sex
offender.

Wilkins pleaded guilty to fondling a woman on Sept. 7, 2008, somewhere in Champaign. According to police, the 21-year-old victim was so intoxicated that she
could not consent to any sex acts.

She woke up on North McKinley Street in Champaign at about 7 a.m. that day. Police said she had injuries consistent with being sexually assaulted
but could not recall what had happened to her.

In exchange for Wilkins' guilty plea for criminal sexual abuse, two other counts of criminal sexual assault were dismissed.

Lt. Roy Acree of the University of Illinois police said that Wilkins had been seen in the area where a man mugged, robbed and grabbed the breast
and pelvic area of a woman on East Daniel Street on Saturday. Acree said it is not unusual, when the university gets information that a registered
sex offender with no connection to the university is seen on campus, for that person to be issued a no-trespass notice.

Nice. no details in this story. sounds more like the cops want to harass this guy.

I agree - without details it is impossible to understand why this guy should not be on campus. Even if he is a registered sex offender. Please explain why the public should help.
