Woman's death being treated as homicide

Update 7:40 p.m. Tuesday

The Champaign County sheriff's office is treating the death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday morning as a murder.

A woman's body has been found along a road just northwest of Champaign.

Champaign County Sheriff Dan Walsh said a motorist en route to work about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday saw a body along Rising Road just north of Bradley Avenue. He said investigators are treating the death as a homicide, but would not release much information.

“I have no reason to believe the body had been there more than a day, and my personal assumption is that the body had been there less than a day,” Walsh said.

Walsh said the woman's body was about 100 feet off the road. He said a preliminary description is that of a light-skinned woman between 5 feet 2 and 5 feet 5 inches, with dark hair and between 20 and 40 years old. Walsh asked that if anyone knows of someone who is missing who matches the description to call the sheriff's office at 384-1213.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Walsh said investigators from his office, along with the coroner's office and Champaign Police Department, are at the scene.

While Rising Road remained closed between Bradley and Cardinal Road for most of the day due to the investigation, the road had reopened by Tuesday evening.

The Champaign County Sheriff has been able to pinpoint the victims age to be anywhere from 20 to 40 ---- WOW!! now that is impressive profiling.

Whats next, a press release that they are looking for a suspect: male/female, 4'8"-6'9", 95-350lbs, age 16-50

Estimating age can be difficult because of the the cause of death, the type of injuries, the period of decomposition, etc.

20-40 is not an unreasonable estimate.

My guess is that the body has decomposed or is in such poor condition that it is difficult to determine the victim's age. This makes it very difficult to accurately guess a person's age before an autopsy is performed. Think before you insult law enforcement officials.
