Two sought in Savoy bank robbery

UPDATED 12:25 p.m.

SAVOY  — Champaign County sheriff’s deputies are looking for two men who held up a Savoy bank Thursday morning.

Lt. Ed Ogle said two men entered the Busey Bank, 108 Arbours Drive, about 10:25 a.m. Both of them were armed with guns and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Deputies are looking for an older, gold Chevrolet Malibu with front-end damage that was reported stolen to Champaign police last night from the 1100 block of South Second Street. The license plate on the car is K 875 844, Ogle said.

Ogle described one man as black, about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, about 180 pounds, wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket and a white ball cap. He had a dark colored semi-automatic handgun.

The second man was also black, about 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, stocky, wearing a blue shirt and a dark-colored ball cap. He was armed with what appeared to be a revolver.

Ogle said the car headed west on Arbours Drive after the holdup. He said he did not think there were any customers in the small branch bank but there were about six employees present.

The same bank was robbed at gunpoint on Friday, July 29, just before 10 a.m. No one was injured. The holdup is the fifth unsolved bank robbery in Champaign County since early July.
