Arcola raising money for mural project

Arcola raising money for mural project

A committee in Arcola is busy raising money for a Walldogs mural project next spring and will hold another fundraising event this Friday.

City Administrator Bill Wagoner said a committee is trying to raise at least $50,000 to cover costs associated with the painting of 14 murals in Arcola's downtown area and in some other parts of town.

Wagoner said the Arcola Beautification Committee hopes the murals increase tourism to the area as they did in Pontiac and Danville.  Plus, Wagoner says, the committee hopes to revive community spirit with the project.

The Walldogs will paint the murals from June 20-24 in Arcola.  The pictures will depict historic themes of the Douglas County community.

The committee will hold a wine and beer tasting event this Friday at the Arcola Center at the corner of U.S. 45 and Main Street from 5 to 9 p.m.  Tickets are $15.
