Autopsy results released in fatal crash

DANVILLE — A Westville man who was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Georgetown over the weekend died of multiple blunt-force injuries, according to a preliminary autopsy report released on Monday.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said she's still awaiting a toxicology report for Gerald M. Moreman, 52. She added an inquest into his death may be held at a later date.

The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the accident that also sent the male driver of the other vehicle and its five passengers, including a woman and four children, to the hospital, Capt. Dennis Wood said. Their names and conditions still weren't available on Monday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of County Road 1800 E and Mill Road, east of Georgetown, at 6:08 p.m. Saturday.

According to a police report, Mr. Moreman was sitting in a pickup truck at a stop sign at the intersection. A man was driving west on Mill Road when he lost control of his car. The car went into a ditch, hit a culvert and then went airborne before embedding itself in the cab of the pickup truck.

Wood said the accident report didn't indicate whether any citations had been issued.
