EIU police seek help solving vandalism

CHARLESTON — The Eastern Illinois Police Department needs help finding whoever vandalized the Physical Science Building on Fourth Street in Charleston.

According to a police report, damage was discovered in some chemistry labs in the building early Friday afternoon.

William Weber, the university's vice president for business affairs, said damage to laboratory equipment was considerable and was still being assessed by university administrators and faculty on Monday afternoon.

University spokeswoman Janice Hunt said any hazardous materials in the building are secure and do not pose any danger to the public.

People with information about the incident are asked to call Coles County Crimestoppers at 1-866-345-8488, text "crimeleads" to 274637, or call the EIU Police Department at 581-3212.
