Cities have some free downtown parking for holidays

During December, Champaign and Urbana will offer some free parking to thank people for patronizing downtown businesses.

People who spend $5 or more at any downtown Champaign business or restaurant are eligible for one free visit in the Hill Street deck, at the corner of Hill and Randolph streets, up to four hours on the same day as their purchase. The offer is limited to one free visit in the deck per day between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Parking in the deck is free on Saturdays and Sundays.)

Customers need to provide proof of their same-day purchase to the cashier in the booth at the Hill Street exit to receive their free parking.

In Urbana, several parking meters in the campus area that are adjacent to businesses and in the downtown area have been bagged and tagged to allow two free hours of parking. That courtesy started just before Thanksgiving and runs through Jan. 2.

People who need longer-term parking downtown should use the parking deck at the corner of Main Street and Broadway Avenue.

Wow!  Why don't you(city staffers) park  in YOUR  city-owned parking garage and let the taxpayer park in the ground areas that you use everyday?  Talk about bah humbug goodwill!! This is about as unthankful of a slap on the taxpayer's bumper as it can get.  This clearly demonstrates the current crisis of  authority we have from coast to coast.
