Urbana man charged in sex case

URBANA — An Urbana man accused of molesting a young girl is due back in court Jan. 10 after being arraigned Thursday.
Donald Belanger, 53, who listed an address in the 700 block of Pfeffer Road, was charged with a single count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. The charge alleges sexual activity that occurred some time between January and June 2010 with a child under the age of 13.
Belanger was initially charged on Nov. 2 and issued a summons to come to court later. The state had no objection to him being released on his own recognizance.
Judge Richard Klaus told Belanger that if convicted, he faces six to 30 years in prison.
The Champaign County sheriff's office investigated the case.
