Teens charged with burglary in Champaign
URBANA — Three Champaign teens have been charged with residential burglary for breaking into and ransacking a home in Champaign Wednesday afternoon.
Martin Davis, 17, who listed an address in the 400 block of West Beardsley Avenue, Champaign, and two other male teens appeared in court Thursday, accused of breaking into a home in the 700 block of North Prairie Street, Champaign, about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Assistant State's Attorney Duke Harris said a witness saw three teens break a window to the house. Once inside, they ransacked it and took several electronic items, including a camera and a remote control.
Police showed up quickly and caught all three teens not far away. They recovered some of the stolen items.
Judge Richard Klaus set bond for Davis at $5,000 and ordered him to be back in court Jan. 17.
Judge Heidi Ladd found it was a matter of urgent and immediate necessity to hold the other boys, ages 15 and 16, in detention until court dates next week.
If convicted of the residential burglary, Martin faces a mandatory prison term of between four and 15 years.
The juveniles, if convicted, cannot be held past their 21st birthday.
Perhaps they should have used pepper spray, or a baton, or whatever. I'm tired of punks having no fear of the law because as usual they'll get a slap on the hand, handled with kid gloves, and be repeat criminals for the next 30-40 years.
Break into a home in Riyadh and see how you're handled. Getting probation sure the heck isn't scaring some 18 year old "gangster".
