Second man arrested in home invasion

URBANA — A second man accused of taking part in a July home invasion in which a pregnant woman was hit has been arrested.

Anthony Beckley, 22, who listed an address in the 1700 block of South Mattis Avenue, Champaign, was arraigned Thursday on a single count of home invasion. Already charged in early October was Audie Wright, 21, who listed the same address as Beckley.

According to a Champaign police report, a man and woman were sleeping in the home in the 2000 block of Broadmoor Drive on July 21 when the man answered a knock at the door.

The report said Beckley was standing in the door and allegedly punched the man twice in the face with a closed fist. Wright then allegedly entered the bedroom and struck the woman, who was seven months pregnant, in the face several times. She was also kicked in the stomach.

Both intruders then ran from the residence, with the man giving chase. Police were unable to locate them right away.

Warrants for their arrests were issued in late August, court records show.

Wright is due in court Dec. 20 while Beckley was given until Dec. 29 to find a lawyer.

If convicted of the charge, they face six to 30 years in prison.
