Two men rob man in Urbana

URBANA — Urbana police are looking for two men who robbed a man as he walked on an Urbana street Tuesday night.

Sgt. Dan Morgan said a 26-year-old Urbana man was walking in the 100 block of West California Avenue near Broadway Avenue, just south of Lincoln Square, at 8:10 p.m.

He heard two people run up behind him. One of them was armed with a silver revolver. They robbed him of cash then took off running.

The victim described the man with the gun as being black, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with a thin build, in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing dark clothing.

The other man was described as black, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothing, including a coat with a hood with fur trim.

Officers spent an hour searching several blocks. They spotted two people running through yards at Washington Street and Wabash Avenue, Morgan said. One man was stopped and identified but was released when the robbery victim could not identify him.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477.
