Gunman robs Dollar General in Rantoul

RANTOUL — A clerk at a Rantoul store was robbed at gunpoint Thursday evening.

Rantoul police said a man wearing a black ski mask walked into Dollar General, 304 E. Sangamon Ave., approached an employee and placed a gun to her back while ordering her to empty the cash register into a plastic Dollar General bag.

The man then fled on foot. The employee was not injured. Police were called at 8:53 p.m.

In addition to the ski mask, the man wore a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, black pants and black shoes. He stood 5 foot 10 inches to 6 foot 1 inch tall and had a medium build.

Police Sgt. Sean Arie said the store is equipped with security cameras and investigators will examine video from the cameras.

Rantoul police ask that anyone with information about the holdup call the department at 892-2103 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
