Danville man pleads innocent to armed robbery

URBANA — A Danville man is being held at the Champaign County Jail following his arrest in connection with an armed robbery at an Urbana home.

Christopher A. Mitchell, 24, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Clay Street, Danville, pleaded innocent on Tuesday to felony armed robbery.

According to an Urbana police report, a 33-year-old Urbana man was visiting a 21-year-old woman at her home in the 1300 block of Ivanhoe Way, Urbana, at 11:20 p.m. Thursday when Mitchell knocked on the door and demanded to be let in.

Once inside the apartment, police said, Mitchell displayed a silver handgun and robbed the man of $12.

The man who was robbed immediately fled from the home and called police. When officers arrived a few minutes later, they found Mitchell still inside the home. Police recovered the stolen money and a loaded silver handgun and arrested Mitchell.

Neither person inside the home were injured, according to the report.

On Tuesday, Judge Richard Klaus set Mitchell's next court appearance for Feb. 14.
