Man in driver's seat of stolen car arrested

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police arrested an Urbana man after they found him behind the wheel of a car that had been reported stolen in Urbana.

Ryan M. Parr, 19, who listed an address in the 700 block of East Illinois Street, pleaded innocent on Monday to unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to a police report, a Champaign police officer saw several men leaving a green Buick Century parked along the curb in the 1300 block of North Champaign Street, Champaign, at 1:41 a.m. Sunday. The car had been reported stolen in Urbana.

The men who had left the car entered a home on that block, and police questioned three of them as they left the residence.

While the three were being questioned, another officer found Parr sitting in the driver's seat of the Buick and possessing the key, the report said. Parr was arrested and taken to the Champaign County Jail.

Parr's next court appearance was set for March 6.
