Champaign man faces cannabis charge

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police found cannabis and packaging material in his apartment.

Urbana police investigator Matt Quinley said members of the street crimes unit had obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the 300 block of East Green Street and served it about 3:20 p.m.

Vasily Baycharov, 24, of that address, was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cannabis after police found about 1.8 pounds of cannabis, packaging materials and a digital scale.

Baycharov was charged Friday with possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a Class 2 felony carrying penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison upon conviction.
