Woman sent to prison in theft
URBANA — A Mahomet woman with a 30-year criminal history was resentenced Thursday in Champaign County to four years in prison for theft.
Mari Whealon, 49, who listed an address in the 300 block of North Diane Lane, admitted in November to Judge Heidi Ladd that she violated the probation she received for stealing heartburn medication from the Mahomet IGA in December 2009.
Whealon admitted that she used illegal drugs during her two-year probation.
Court records show Whealon has several prior convictions for deceptive practices, forgery, possession of controlled substance, attempted possession of a controlled substance and obstructing justice.
In an unrelated sentence handed down Thursday:
— Robert Dunn, 56, who listed addresses on North Hickory Street in Champaign and West Church Street in Urbana, was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Dunn, however, was not present to hear Judge Tom Difanis impose the sentence.
Dunn pleaded guilty to having about four-tenths of a gram of cocaine under his hat when stopped by Urbana police on April 2 as he rode his bicycle near Goodwin Avenue and Hill Street.
He has several prior convictions for aggravated battery, possession and delivery of controlled substance, retail theft, obstructing justice, driving under suspension and revocation and illegal transportation of alcohol.
