Convenience store robbery under investigation

A release from Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said a female employee of the Circle K at 1713 W. John St., reported to police she was robbed by a masked man about 3 a.m.

The clerk said she was in the storage room when a man entered the store alone. As she began to walk out of the storage room, he walked past the counter and pushed her toward the cash register while demanding money.

The man pressed an object that she believed to be a gun against her back and took money from the register.

He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran north through the parking lot toward John Street.

The clerk was not physically harmed and there were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery.
