Mahomet-Seymour schools chief leaving

MAHOMET — Mahomet-Seymour school superintendent Keith Oates will step down at the end of this school year.

Oates, who has headed up the Mahomet-Seymour district for six years, will assume the office of superintendent of Marion school district on July 1.

It’ll be a homecoming for Oates, a Marion native whose father Tom Oates served as that district’s superintendent from 1985 to 2002.

“It was a difficult decision, because Mahomet-Seymour is so outstanding in so many ways,” Oates said, adding that he hadn’t been actively seeking another position.
