Champaign man accused of robbery, battery

URBANA — A 46-year-old Champaign man has been charged with robbery and domestic battery for allegedly hurting his girlfriend and taking money from her.

Jeffrey Cochrane, who listed an address in the 2300 block of Briar Hill, was charged Friday in Champaign County Circuit Court in connection with a Jan. 26 incident at the home of his girlfriend in the 2000 block of East Michigan Avenue in Urbana.

An Urbana police report said the 41-year-old woman reported that Cochrane struck her and forcibly took money from her on that date. The report said the woman was visibly upset and had dried blood on her face.

If convicted of the more serious robbery charge, Cochrane faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison. Domestic battery is a misdemeanor offense.
