Urbana man killed in truck crash

SIDNEY — An Urbana man was killed in a single-vehicle crash just west of Sidney Friday night.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Will Davis said Gordon R. Ferran, 47, who lived in the 2700 block of Brownfield Road, died at the scene of the crash that happened about 10:20 p.m. on County Road 1000 N, also referred to as the Sidney Slab.

Davis said Mr. Ferran was driving his pickup truck west on 1000 N and had just crossed 1900 E when, for an unknown reason, the truck began to skid.

It then spun and hit the south ditch and began to roll over, hitting a utility pole as it rolled, breaking it. Mr. Ferran was the only one inside the Dodge Ram, which eventually came to a stop on its wheels in a field.

A passer-by saw the truck and called for help. Because there were power lines on it, emergency workers couldn't get to Mr. Ferran until Ameren employees were able to cut the power.

Davis said Mr. Ferran was a construction worker. There were several tools in his truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gordon was an extremely talented man who I had the pleasure of working with for some years.  His work can be seen in homes and buildings all over this area and will stand as a lasting testament to who he was....Bill Brown

 He was one of a kind. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and his pack. He was a good leader and a loving father. To say he will be missed....doesn't even cover it.A Scout is:
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful,
Friendly, Courteous, Kind,
Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty,
Brave, Clean, Reverent

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
