Champaign man faces sex abuse charge

URBANA — A Champaign man accused of touching a girl under the age of 13 for his own sexual gratification is due back in court with his own attorney later this month.

Barrington Gillings, 29, who listed an address in the 300 block of West Hill Street, was arraigned on a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

The charge alleges that on Monday, he knelt by the bed of the girl at a home in east Urbana and touched her below the waist.

Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said the girl told her mother about the contact, including that Gillings was naked when he was touching her.

Champaign County sheriff's deputies investigated.

Judge Richard Klaus ordered that Gillings be held in lieu of $75,000 bond. Gillings told the judge he wanted time to hire his own attorney and was told to be back in court Feb. 22.
