Street closures planned in Champaign, Urbana

Here are upcoming street closures in Urbana and Champaign:

— Cunningham Avenue between Perkins Road and University Avenue in Urbana will behave periodic lane closures beginning at 7 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Feb. 26.

The closures will allow for installation of fiber optic conduit. Two-way traffic will be open at all times.

— The final phase of the John Street Drainage Improvement Project means the extension of a storm sewer along John Street from Prospect Avenue to the Daniel Street and Willis Avenue intersection.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, John Street will be closed to through traffic between Willis Avenue and Prospect Avenue.

Work on this section is expected to last about 12 weeks. During this time, eastbound traffic on John Street will be detoured north along McKinley Avenue, east on Green Street, south on Prospect Avenue and back to John Street.

Westbound traffic on John Street will be detoured north along Prospect Avenue, west on Green Street, south on McKinley Avenue, and back to John Street.

In addition to the closure, Prospect Avenue at John Street will be periodically narrowed to one lane in each direction as work is completed on sidewalk ramps.
