Rantoul man resentenced to prison, facing new drug charges

URBANA — A Rantoul man who was charged Monday with possessing cocaine was also resentenced that same day to prison.

On Monday, Judge Heidi Ladd resentenced Dean Graves Jr., 28, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Eastview Drive, to six years in prison for attempted possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

Graves had initially been sentenced in May 2011 to four years of probation and ordered to get drug treatment after having pleaded guilty to the offense, which happened in August 2010 in Urbana.

In September, the state's attorney's office filed a petition to revoke Graves' probation after he failed to get treatment or to report to probation as ordered. In December, he admitted he violated his probation and had his case set for resentencing Monday.

But over the weekend, Graves was arrested again for possessing cocaine. The charges filed in connection with his arrest Sunday remain unresolved. He's due back in court on those charges March 20.
