EIU meets fundraising goal two years early

Eastern Illinois University has reached a $50 million fundraising goal more than two years ahead of schedule.

The "EI&U:  The Campaign For Eastern" campaign launched in October 2010 with a goal of $50 million by July 2014.  But the university reports that $53.1 million has already been raised.

EIU Vice President for Advancement Bob Martin says a large amount of the money raised will directly benefit EIU students.

Martin also says the university couldn't have reached its goal so early without the help of some generous alumni and faculty members.

Aside from funding scholarships, the money raised from the "EI&U" campaign will be used to build a new science center, add a gateway to Lantz Arena and establish various student programs.
