Paul expected to stop on UI campus Wednesday

CHAMPAIGN — Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is expected to hold a rally Wednesday night at the University of Illinois' Foellinger Auditorium.

An official announcement of the event will come Monday after campaign staff complete a planning meeting with UI officials.

The rally is tentatively set for 7 p.m., according to Phil Bloomer, a spokesman for U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Urbana, who is a longtime friend and congressional colleague of Paul's.

Johnson, who a recent study found has a nearly identical voting score in the House of Representatives to Paul's, is also expected to endorse the Texas congressman at the rally.

Bloomer said that Johnson "has a great deal of respect and admiration for Ron Paul, they're good friends and have worked together on major legislation over a number of years."
