Police investigating strong-arm robbery in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for a man who robbed a gas station employee Saturday morning.

Sgt. Dennis Baltzell said the 28-year-old woman was leaving the Circle K at 601 N. Neil St. to make a bank deposit about 9:30 a.m. when she was grabbed from behind in the parking lot.

Baltzell said the robber used physical force and verbally threatened the woman as he grabbed the bank bag and ran west.

The woman was unable to get a good look at him but surveillance video suggested he was wearing a blue long sleeve dress shirt that buttons down the front, blue jeans, and a black baseball cap.

Baltzell said the woman was shaken but not physically harmed in the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign police at 351-4545. Calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers at 373-8477.
