Firefighters are uncertain as to the cause of an early morning fire Saturday that caused heavy damage to a Rantoul home.
The fire at 1013 Englewood Drive caused an estimated $100,000 damage to the residence owned by Rutner Francis. The blaze was called in at 12:44 a.m.
Fire Chief Ken Waters said smoke and flames were showing from the west side of the garage, and smoke was issuing from the soffits of the house when firefighters arrived.
A car inside the garage was a total loss.
The occupants escaped from a bedroom window. Waters said there were no injuries other than the owner scraping his leg when he came out the window.
The house immediately west of the fire scene sustained heat damage to the siding, according to Waters.
Two engines and one rescue unit with 21 firefighters were on the scene for about two and a half hours.
