Four write-in candidates in Tuesday primary
URBANA — There are four registered write-in candidates in Champaign County for Tuesday's primary election.
Only one write-in is contesting another candidate. That is Randall Terry, a West Virginia anti-abortion activist who is running for president on the Democratic Party ticket. Terry won at least 18 percent of the vote in Oklahoma's Democratic primary earlier this month. Terry also beat President Obama in 12 Oklahoma counties.
The other registered write-in candidates are all on the Republican side. They include Philip Fiscella of 505 W. Green St., C, who is running for the Champaign County Board in District 7, where there currently are no GOP candidates and three Democratic hopefuls for two spots.
The other write-in GOP candidates are running for precinct committeeman: Luke Saathoff of Bondville in the Scott-Bondville Precinct and Jason Perry Rector of Champaign in the City of Champaign 32 Precinct.
Under Illinois law the votes of write-in candidates are counted only if they have registered ahead of time with the county clerk's office.
