Mahomet man faces aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges

URBANA — A Mahomet man accused of molesting two girls has been arraigned on two counts of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Daniel L. Futia, 39, who listed an address in the 100 block of Randolph, was arrested Tuesday by Champaign County sheriff's deputies. He's being held in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Sheriff's Sgt. Curt Apperson said the mother of two Champaign girls reported to deputies last week that her daughters told her that Futia, a boyfriend of a relative, had alleged sexual contact with them on more than one occasion.

Criminal charges filed Wednesday allege he had inappropriate contact with one girl between January 2005 and 2007, and between Sept. 1, 2001, and December 2011 with the other. The girls are now 12 and 16, Apperson said.

Futia was in court Wednesday and told to return on May 8.
