Woman to hospital after two-car crash

SEYMOUR — A Monticello woman was being treated at Carle Foundation Hospital Thursday morning following a two-car collision at a rural intersection in western Champaign County.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Brian Mennenga said Tanya Smith-Wood, 34, sustained facial injuries when her car and another collided at an unmarked intersection about 2 miles south of Seymour at 9:45 a.m.

Mennenga said Smith-Wood was driving east on County Road 1400 N and Grant Bend, 21, of Earlville, was driving south on 300 E, and that they collided in the intersection.

Bend sustained minor injuries, according to Mennenga.

Smith-Wood had to be cut out of her car. She was taken to Carle by helicopter. The hospital had no information about her condition Thursday night.

No tickets had been issued as deputies were continuing to investigate.
