Seat belts prevent serious injuries in rollover crash

MAHOMET — A Champaign County sheriff’s deputy said the proper use of seat belts and child safety seats prevented serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Mahomet Saturday afternoon.

Deputy Tracy Wagner said about 1:45 p.m., Suzie Ferraro, 36, of Mahomet, was stopped in traffic in the 500 block of South Prairieview Road waiting to turn into the Mobil Super Pantry when her car was struck from behind by a pickup truck driver distracted by his passengers.

The truck, driven by Eric Hall, 29, also of Mahomet, then rolled over, coming to rest upside down.

Hall, his 10-year-old daughter and another 10-year-old girl, were all properly belted and were not injured, Wagner said.

Ferraro and her 6-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were also properly restrained and not seriously injured. Ferraro was the only one who sought hospital treatment for neck pain, Wagner said. She went to Provena Covenant Medical Center.

Hall was given a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
