I-57 resurfacing work to begin next month

THOMASBORO — Starting in early April, a section of Interstate 57 in Champaign County will be resurfaced.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that 5.4 miles of southbound I-57 is slated to be ground down and resurfaced with asphalt mix.

The project runs from just south of Olympian Drive in Champaign to 2 miles south of Thomasboro.

In addition, repairs to the Olympian Drive interchange and to the Market Street interchange are planned. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained, although construction trucks will enter and leave the open lane.

The overall project is anticipated to be done by the end of October. The contractor for the $9.4 million project is Open Road Paving Co. LLC.
