SIDNEY — Two Sidney teens have been charged with arson for a fire intentionally set at an abandoned farmhouse last week.
Champaign County sheriff’s Lt. Ed Ogle said several teens are believed to be involved but only two have been charged for setting fire to the house at 1944 County Road 900 N on March 21.
A passerby saw the fire at 10:30 p.m. The fire destroyed the two-story farmhouse owned by Michael P. O’Neill of Sidney despite the efforts of several area fire departments.
Ogle said that the day after the fire, a source told the sheriff’s office about teens who had been talking about burning it down.
Investigators talked to several of them and on Monday arrested Cody Sullivan, 17, of the 300 block of East Byron, Sidney, at his home.
He was charged Tuesday, along with Todd Barnes, 17, of the 300 block of South White Street, Sidney. A summons was issued for Barnes to come to court on April 13.
On Tuesday, a judge set bond for Sullivan at $5,000 and told him to be back in court May 29.
Ogle said it’s believed that four other teens — two boys and two girls — were present when the house was set afire,
