Four injured in interstate ramp accident

CHAMPAIGN — Four people from Decatur were injured Saturday afternoon when the vehicle they were in overturned near an exit ramp.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said about 12:20 p.m., Chaz E. Robinson, 21, was driving a van east on Interstate 72 approaching the entrance ramp to I-57 northbound. He admitted making an aggressive right turn so as not to miss the ramp and lost control.

The van began to skid and rolled over, coming to rest on the passenger side. Robinson told police he was driving about 65 to 70 mph but the speed limit in that area is 55 mph.

He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Robinson and three passengers with him were all taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

The others were Kelly Hunter, 40; Lisa Hunter, 38; and Olivia Helmuth, 19. Helmuth was also issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

A Carle spokewoman said all four were treated and released.
