Traveling farm exhibit at UI

URBANA — Folks can get insights on U.S. farm life from a special exhibit on the University of Illinois campus today.

America's Farmers Mobile Experience — a traveling 53-foot trailer that expands into 1,000 square feet of exhibit space — will be on the parking lot east of Turner Hall, with tours available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The exhibit, sponsored by Monsanto, includes:

— An interactive globe that allows visitors to see population growth and how many people an acre of farmland needs to feed to meet demands of a growing population.

— A 180-degree theater that immerses visitors in a video experience that spotlights an American farm family and what it's doing to meet world demand. Three generations of farm women speak about what farm life means to them.

— Ag educators who teach guests about breeding, biotechnology and agronomics.

The traveling exhibit came to the UI campus Monday and will next travel to Purdue University.

Turner Hall, at 1102 S. Goodwin Ave., U, is Iocated south of Madigan Laboratory and east of the College of ACES Library. The Turner Hall area can be accessed from Pennsylvania Avenue.
