Sustainability advocate to speak at UI

URBANA — Sustainability advocate Majora Carter is scheduled to speak on the University of Illinois campus on April 19.

Carter, producer and host of the public radio show "The Promised Land," is slated to speak at 5:30 p.m. at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, 1205 W. Clark St., U.

Since 2008, her economic consulting company, Majora Carter Group, has come up with climate adaptation, urban micro-agribusiness and leadership development strategies for communities.

From 2001 to 2008, Carter was executive director of the Sustainable South Bronx nonprofit group, where she pioneered green-collar job training and placement.

Her speech is sponsored by the UI Office of Sustainability and 24 other entities on campus.
