Thousands of dollars worth of items stolen in Savoy break-in

SAVOY — Champaign County sheriff's deputies are investigating a break-in at a Savoy apartment that resulted in thousands of dollars worth of items stolen and damage done.

Sgt. Dan Coile said a 26-year-old man had been away from his home in the 100 block of Sterling Court since mid-March and returned home Monday to find his front door unlocked.

Inside, he found his couch slashed, television smashed, bed cut up and a safe broken into.

Among the items stolen were a Colt handgun, a Springfield rifle, four watches, a cell phone, a laptop computer, sunglasses and cash. The value of the stolen items was estimated at $8,050.

Damage to the furniture and television was estimated at $6,640, Coile said.

Hmmm... Let me put on my "junior detective's cap" and do some thinking. Couch, television, bed: destroyed. Taken? Colt handgun, Springfield rifle. Methinks this is someone he KNOWS or someone who had knowledge this person had munitions in his residence. I'm betting friend (!) or dealer. Someone who had been in the place before. Is this CSI or something? Come on. Open and shutter.
