Champaign police looking for armed robber

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for a man who robbed a man in the garage of a campus apartment complex at gunpoint early Thursday.

A release from Champaign police said that about 6 a.m., a 22-year-old man and two friends were in an underground parking garage in the 500 block of South Third Street when they were approached by another man who displayed a gun and demanded money.

As the victim was handing over money, a car came in the garage, prompting the robber to run to the southeast.

No money was taken from the other two people present.

The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 180 pounds with short braided hair. He had light facial hair but also had heavier patches of hair on his upper lip and chin. He was wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt.

Champaign police ask anyone with information to call them at 217-351-4545 or if callers want to remain anonymous, they should call Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477 (TIPS). Tips can also be sent at http://www.373tips.com or by text by sending CCTIP plus the information to 274637 (CRIMES).
