Report of gun at bar leads to drug arrest

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man who allegedly had cocaine with him at a Champaign bar early Thursday has been charged with a Class 1 felony.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said about 1:44 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to Bradley's II, 1906 W. Bradley Ave., C, on a report that one patron of the bar had flashed a gun at another patron.

Officers made contact outside the bar with Ezekiel Short, 29, who listed an address in the 1400 block of Cambridge Drive. Dunn said police searched the vehicle that Short arrived in and found about 5 grams of suspected cocaine, a digital scale and other items to suggest that the cocaine was intended for sale.

Short was charged Thursday with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. If convicted, he faces penalties ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison. Short is being held in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. He's due back in court June 5.

Dunn said police never found a gun.
