Urbana woman arrested for receiving cannabis shipment

URBANA - A 28-year-old Urbana woman was arrested Friday on charges that she received several pounds of suspected cannabis at her home.

Evitt Walker, of the 300 block of South Dodson Drive, was released from the county jail Saturday after posting $1,000 cash. She’s due back in court Monday for formal charging.

Champaign County sheriff’s Sgt. Curt Apperson said officers from his department and the Illinois State Police were alerted early Friday that two packages of cannabis were headed for a home in the 300 block of South Dodson Drive in Urbana.

Apperson declined to say if the packages were intercepted by a private freight company or the U.S. Postal Service.

Authorities examined the packages, which had a return address in California, and went ahead and set up a delivery to the address.

Apperson said police were watching the home about 1:15 p.m. Friday as the delivery was made. When Walker put the packages in her vehicle to leave, she was arrested.

Apperson said the suspected cannabis weighed just over 10 pounds.

She was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
