Urbana approves interim school administrators

URBANA – The Urbana school board unanimously appointed two interim administrators at its meeting Tuesday.

The school board voted unanimously to make Joe Wiemelt interim principal at Urbana High School for next school year. He's currently the director of bilingual and multicultural programs.

The school board also voted to make Guadalupe Ricconi interim director of bilingual and multicultural programs for the 2012-13 school year, to fill in for Wiemelt.

Ricconi is currently a bilingual teacher at Urbana's Leal School.

Board President John Dimit congratulated Wiemelt and Ricconi after the board voted.

“We know both of you are taking over programs that are of extreme high quality and we know you will continue to move both programs in that direction,” Dimit said.

Wiemelt said he works with bilingual and English as a Second Language programs at the high school and has worked collaboratively with teachers and administrators there.

“I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity,” Wiemelt said after the meeting.

Also Tuesday, the school board unanimously approved extending a cleaning contract with Environmental Services Solutions, this year for about $1 million.

Last year's contract with the company was $981,375.
