Lamon House opens Sunday

DANVILLE — The historic Lamon House in Danville's Lincoln Park will open for the season on Sunday.

Visitors can visit the house between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Sundays through the end of October.

They will be greeted by Melissa Beckwith Lamon, portrayed by Danville resident Becky Woodrum.

Beckwith Lamon was the daughter of Danville's founder Dan Beckwith. She and her husband, Joseph, built the house around 1849. It is decorated in late-1800 period pieces.

Originally located on West North Street in Danville, the house was moved to its present location in the park by the Vermilion County Museum Society in 1984. Museum officials believe it is one of the oldest frame residences in Danville.
