Woman robbed in Champaign parking lot

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for a man who robbed a woman of cash outside a northwest Champaign bank late Thursday morning.

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said a 23-year-old woman was about to enter the Busey Bank at 907 W. Marketview Drive with a deposit at 11:45 a.m. when a man approached her.

The man threatened her with a gun and hit her in the face, but not with the gun, before making off with the money, Dunn said. The woman did not require medical treatment.

Dunn said the woman described the robber as a black man with a scar on the left side of his face, about 6 feet tall, average build, with long hair. He was wearing all black clothes.

Police brought in Ivo, the Champaign County sheriff's office tracking dog, to help follow the scent of the robber. The dog followed a scent to the west behind the Rural King store before losing it.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477 or Champaign police at 351-4545.
