Rantoul man arrested for home invasion

URBANA — A Rantoul man is scheduled to be back in court May 29 following his arrest in connection with an April home invasion in St. Joseph.

Gregory Depriest, 36, who listed an address in the 200 block of Sangamon Avenue, Rantoul, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of home invasion and violation of a bail bond. A warrant had been issued for his arrest on those charges Friday.

According to a police report, Depriest went to the home of his child's mother in the 300 block of Proctor Lane in St. Joseph and allegedly entered without permission on April 15.

The 28-year-old woman living there confronted Depriest as he entered the bedroom and discovered a 29-year-old St. Joseph man asleep in the bed next to Depriest's 5-year-old daughter.

Police said DePriest allegedly punched the man repeatedly in the face as he lay near the girl.

Depriest had been charged in March with domestic battery with a prior domestic battery for an incident involving the same woman. A condition of his bond then was that he have no contact with her or her address.

Depriest continues to be held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
