CHAMPAIGN — Stratton Leadership and MicroSociety Magnet School will host its first-ever MicroSociety Summer Camp from June 4-15 for second- through fifth-graders.
Registration ends May 25 and the camp will be limited to 40 students. It is free of charge, and breakfast and lunch will be provided. The camp is open to any students; those who live in the Champaign school district will have transportation provided, though.
If more than 40 students register, camp organizers will use a random selection process to choose who can participate. It will notify students and parents about who will participate or be wait-listed by May 29.
A meeting for parents of students participating is scheduled for 5 p.m. May 30, where organizers will gather emergency contact information and discuss expectations and rules.
Students in the camp will learn more about MicroSociety and things like community values, entrepreneurship, budgets, communication skills and creating products to be sold during market time.
