Truck driver ticketed in I-57 crash

CHAMPAIGN — A truck driver who ran into the back of another truck in a construction zone on Interstate 57 was ticketed Tuesday for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

No injuries were reported.

State police said James L. Alcorn, 64, of Bloomington was driving a Peterbilt truck north on I-57 at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday when he was hit from behind by an International truck driven by Franklin J. Haller, 27, of Streamwood.

The accident occurred about a mile south of I-72 where road construction has narrowed the highway to one lane.

Alcorn's truck wound up in the median and Haller's truck stopped on the right shoulder.

Haller told police he had looked down and didn't see Alcorn's truck. Haller was ticketed.
