Chicago woman hurt in I-57 crash

TUSCOLA — A Chicago woman was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana by helicopter Wednesday morning after crashing her van on Interstate 57.

Illinois State Police Sgt. Bill Emery said about 8:30 a.m., Maria G. Garcia, 54, was just south of Tuscola headed north when she lost control. The van swerved off the road, traveled into the median and rolled onto its side.

Garcia was taken to Carle, where her condition was unavailable late Wednesday morning. She was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The southbound lanes of the highway in that area were closed for about an hour, Emery said.
