UPDATED: Man fatally shot at Champaign apartment complex

CHAMPAIGN -- A 20-year-old man who was shot at the Country Brook apartment complex on Sunday afternoon has died.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Torrie Smedley, of Champaign, died after being taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday.

Police responded on Sunday afternoon to a report of a shooting at the apartment complex in the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue.

Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said investigators were questioning witnesses. No information is yet available about the shooter or a motive.

Dunn said it appears one shot was fired.

Actually, I believe the shooting was at CountryBrook, which is on the north side of the road; the recent fire was in the complex on the south side of the road.

I don't think they're referring to the fire at that apartment complex... I think they're referring to this article involving a woman who lived at Country Brook - http://www.news-gazette.com/news/courts-police-and-fire/2012-05-17/jury-... I used to live right across the road at Country Fair... that this kind of crime is occurring is really nothing new, this complex has had a lot of problems for a long time. Unfortunately it seems to be escalating.
